Born to eternal life on Friday, June 23, 2006. Preceded in death by her beloved husband Arthur L. Stein and cherished grandson, Thomas. Loving mom of Stephanie Sue Stein, John (Nancy), Gretchen (Robert) Levezow, Christine Siekierski, James (Mary), Heidi (James) Bourne, Lorelei (Dick) Pepe and Melanie (Jay) Lindseth. Very proud grandma of Dr. Daniel (Dr. Lauren Moore), Meara Leigh, Vicki, Leeanne, Elliot, Elizabeth, Jimmy, Katie, Michael, Stephen, Claire, Phillip, Andrea, Natalie and Brooke. Great-grandma of Levi, Kyle and Matthew. Dear sister of the late Rev. S.B. O'Leary. Sister-in-law of Betty O'Leary. Cousin of Doris Massart. Eileen was born in Graceville, MN and grew up in Minneapolis where her father was a supervisor with Northwestern Bell and her mother a junior high school teacher of music, english and math. She started studying music and dance at a very young age. When she was a senior in high school and a freshman in college, she wrote and directed two operettas for her mother's students to perform. She taught and accompanied dance classes and played with bands to help pay her college fees. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in Public School Music and double minor in English and Speech from MacPhail College of Music and the University of Minnesota. After graduation she took a position as the head of the dance department of a music school in North Dakota. The next year she taught junior and senior high school music (band torch) in Michigan. She then applied to go into the American Red Cross Foreign service during World War II. While she was waiting for approval to the Red Cross, she managed the music department in a department store in Minneapolis. After she was accepted as a club director, for overseas service, she served nearly three years in the European Theatre of operations, first as a director of a huge army camp club in South Wales, and second, attached to Special Services of the III Corps. Headquarters. She drove and performed in a mobile entertainment unit and visited field and evacuation hospitals. She was finally named Director of Entertainment (ARC) in the III Army area, where she met and became a friend of her hero Gen. G. Patten. Irish's services took her to Scotland, France, Belgium, Luxemburg, Germany, Austria and Czechoslovakia. She was recommended for a Bronze Star Medal, but because it couldn't be given to civilian President Truman had the Medal of Freedom minted. Irish was presented this medal in Milwaukee in August of 1947. Arthur Stein (Capt.) was commander of the Army Postal Unit attached to the III Corps. Arthur and Eileen were married by an Army chaplain in Schwabach, Germany and again by the Mayor of Arlon, Belgium. They returned to Milwaukee (Art's Hometown) in 1946 and were eventually blessed with eight children. "Irish" did some part-time substitute teaching, directed CYO plays, taught CYO dance classes, then opened her own dance studio on So. Howell Ave. in Milwaukee. Later she returned to entertaining and played piano and sang both with bands and as a solo performer. She played many clubs, hotel lounges and restaurants and became one of Milwaukee's best loved entertainers. She recorded two albums and made many T.V. appearances.
