Obituary

Ebner Harris "Gus" Luetzow passed into eternal life March 23, 2025. Gus was born May 22, 1927, on 16th and National Avenue, Milwaukee, but by the age of six months was living in Bay View. His beloved wife, Joan, nee Kitzrow, whom he married June 21, 1952, preceded him. His loving family remains to mourn: Mark (Nancy) of St Louis, Missouri, Dr. James (Debra) of Racine, and Lynn (Phillip) Janicki of Crystal Falls, Michigan, as well as eight grandchildren: Jake (Emily) Luetzow, Julie, Sarah (Daniel Neely) and Ann Luetzow, and Sandra (Corey Hyllested), Trisha (Dylan Manning), Michelle (Eric Little) and Diane (Ryan Tingle) Janicki, and eleven great-grandchildren: Margaret, Henry and August Luetzow, Hannah Hyllested, Caroline, Henry and Abigail Manning, Remi and Sophie Little, and Alyvia and Gavin Tingle. He was preceded by his beloved parents Ebner Frederick and Maria Sophia "Rose" nee Buege, and his three brothers: William "Bill", Albert "Bert" and Kenneth "Ken".

Gus graduated from Bay View High School in 1945 and the University of Wisconsin - Madison in 1950 with a BBA in Labor Management in the School of Commerce. He was a WWII veteran of the 9th US Air Force. He was an officer of the Luetzow Laundry and Dry Cleaners, a past President of the Milwaukee Laundry Association, and President of the Bay View Businessmen Association. He worked for Sentry Insurance from 1981 to 1990.

Gus was a member of the G. A. Fritsche Scholarship Committee of Bay View High School. He attended Saint Luke's Episcopal Church, where he was past treasurer, Jr. and Sr. Warden of the Vestry of the church, past chairman of the combined fund of the Episcopal Diocese of Milwaukee, and past chairman of the Diocese Camp Webb board. He was Chairman of the local US Selective Service Draft Board, a Charter member of the South Shore YMCA, and a regular blood donor for the Milwaukee Blood Center of Southeast Wisconsin for over 50 years. His hobbies were teaching young people how to play sheepshead and tutoring at the Children's Dyslexia Learning Center sponsored by the Scottish Rite.

Gus was a life member of the Tripoli Shrine, a past Director of the Shrine Oriental Band, a life member of Lake Lodge #189, a life member of the Scottish Rite Bodies and Royal Arch Masons Chapter #84, and a life member of The American Legion, Bay View Post.

Services will be held Saturday, April 12 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 3200 So. Herman St., with visitation from 9:30AM to 11:00AM, immediately followed by a mass. In memory of Gus, donations to St. Luke's Episcopal Church are appreciated.
