Dr. Thomas was born in the American Army Hospital, Bremmerhaven Germany, on January 8 1947 to 1st Lieutenant Frank Joseph Thomas (d. 1947) and Ms. Nylda Helena Hirschelman (d. 2008). In 1955 Nylda married Mr. Robert Earl Mosbey (d. 2005) and the family moved to Chandler, Indiana. After graduating from Castle High School (1965), Mike studied at Indiana University graduating in 1969 with a BSc in Chemistry with Honors, and then studied at UCLA graduating with a PhD in Chemistry in 1973. He met the beautiful and charming Mary G. Sorci at LSU and they wed a couple of years later in New Orleans (1979). They both worked for many years at the Wake Forest University Medical Center achieving tenured full professor before moving to Milwaukee and working at the Medical College of Wisconsin.

He is survived by his wife, Mary G. Sorci-Thomas, son Stefan Robert Thomas, 1st cousin John Hirschelman, Aunt Valada Hirschelman, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was laid to rest at Forest Home Cemetery, Milwaukee Wisconsin, in a private service.

Memorial Visitation MONDAY, May 20, 2024 from 4-7 PM at the Funeral Home. Eulogy service at 7 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Michael's memory may be made to the American Heart Association or Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
