IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Douglas D.
Bachmann
August 8, 1945 – April 5, 2023
Douglas D. Bachmann
Was welcomed home on Wednesday, April 5, 2023. Age 77 years. Beloved husband for 56 years of Laura (nee Zauner). Respected dad of Matthew (Nancy) Bachmann, Jennifer (Steve) Pankowski, Sara Bachmann (James Schumacher) and Paul Bachmann. Proud Opa of Maya and Chelsea Bachmann-Delgado; Justin, Dan and Kaitlin Pankowski; Noah Schumacher; Jacob and Alivia Bachmann. Cherished brother of Richard (Christine) Bachmann and Linda (Larry) Metzger. Fun brother-in-law of Dan (Mary Ann) Zauner, Fred (Diane) Zauner, Joan Barthel, Mary (Andy) Egloff, Bob (Lynn) Zauner, Dorothy (Len) Birner, Jean Meyer and Ann (Jerry) Malinowski. Loyal friend and "Brother" of John Vitrano. Further survived by many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Doug was born and raised on the South Side of Milwaukee. He graduated from Milwaukee Boys Tech High School in 1963.
Doug proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served from 1963-1967.
He served in the Vietnam War from June 1965 - July 1966
He worked as a diesel mechanic for Beatrice Cheese & Schwerman Trucking Co.
Doug was a member of Wisconsin VietNam Veterans Chapter 1. He served as Chapter President for some time and was instrumental in the dedication of the Wisconsin Vietnam Veterans Memorial. He was incredibly proud of his service in the Marine Corps and Vietnam.
Doug was the most loyal, genuine and generous person that anyone could have had the honor to meet & call friend. If you were lucky enough to end up sitting next to him at the bar of one of his favorite southside restaurants he would buy your first round and become your instant friend. Doug & Laura used to love taking road trips or spending an entire weekend riding their Harley. They had a revolving door of friends stopping by their house all the time. You didn't have to call first, you knew that you'd be welcomed in, offered a drink, and have a burger thrown on the grill for you no matter the day or time you stopped. Except, of course, during a Packer game when you didn't even dare call him!
The family wants to thank the staff at the Zablocki VA Medical Center for their respectful care of their husband and dad.
Visitation Thursday, April 13, 2023 from 3-7 PM at the Milwaukee County War Memorial Center, 750 Lincoln Memorial Drive. Milwaukee. (Please see the funeral home staff for a parking voucher). Sharing of memories and Military Honors Friday at 11 AM at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 21731 Spring St. Union Grove.
In true Doug form, the visitation on Thursday will be casual. Jeans & Marine Corps t-shirts are encouraged! If you would like to do something in his honor, donations to the Milwaukee War Memorial Center in Doug's name would be appreciated.
Semper Fi and Welcome Home, Doug.
