A committal service will take place on Sunday, June 27, 2021 at 2PM at Scales Mound Township Cemetery, 2154 W. Culvert Rd., Scales Mound Township, IL.
After 40+ years living in Arizona, Jean moved back to the Milwaukee area in August of 2019. Jean's family in the Milwaukee area have been blessed to spend her final 19 months together with her. Despite being sick, and her dislike of Wisconsin's cold weather, Jean always maintained a positive attitude and was able to see the best in every situation.
Her smile, optimistic outlook, wit, and her personal tendencies taught those around her more than realized at the time.
A conversation about how telephones have changed - from being mounted on a wall with a crank to now being portable computers - garnered a comment from Jean that showed her forward-thinking optimism. "Imagine what will come next!"
Jean and several family members regularly met for breakfast Monday mornings. One Monday as The group prepared to go down to the restaurant at The Waters of Oak Creek Senior Living Community, Jean asked to begin the journey walking, rather than riding the entire long distance in a wheelchair. She said "I'd hate to give up" referring to walking down to the restaurant. Despite every excuse to take the easy road, Jean chose to persevere and never give up.
Jean was able to do things on her own terms, and for her, smiling was in no short supply. Jean's family will always remember her distinct smiles - the smile when she answered the door and welcomed you into her home, the mischievous sly smile when she shared that she ate a cookie with her english muffin at breakfast, and her broad and genuine smile when sharing a story or joke that she found funny. Jean's smile will continue to comfort all of us for lifetimes to come.
These subtle lessons from Jean through how she lived her final years will remain immensely valuable life lessons to those who were fortunate enough to experience them.
Doris' family would like to extend their gratitude to Aurora At Home Hospice, Dr. James Prahl and his staff, and The Waters of Oak Creek for their compassionate care.
