Obituary

Dorie White, age 88 of Milwaukee, died on Saturday, February 4 in her home.

Dorie was born on July 30, 1934 in Milwaukee, WI to Esther (Stefanski) and

Jerome Bartz. She married Robert H. White of Manitowoc, WI in June 1956 and

the couple moved to Manitowoc where they raised seven children and later

divorced. Dorie attended Silver Lake College graduating in 1981 with a Bachelor of

Science degree specializing in education. She was past president of Catholic Junior

League and worked at Scheurell's Clothing Store, the Manitowoc Health Care

Center, Two Rivers Catholic Central, and Cabrini Middle School.

Always a city girl, Dorie returned to Milwaukee in 1994 and taught middle school

at St. Paul's Catholic School until her retirement in 1999. Upon retirement, she

traveled and volunteered at the Milwaukee Public Museum, West Allis Hospital,

and Special Olympics SEWI, and crocheted and knitted countless mittens, hats,

and baby afghans. She often cared for her grandchildren and took the train

weekly to Chicago to do so. She loved history, especially Milwaukee's, and was an

avid reader and gardener.

Dorie was a champion at facing life's challenges. She was a proud, progressive

woman, believer in women's rights, and fierce ally of the LGBTQ+ community. She

never hesitated to welcome any family, friend, or friend(s) of her children into her

home and did so with a strong and steady supply of love, homemade cookies, and

casseroles. She dedicated her fullest self to raising her children and taught them

to be non-judgmental and to live with pride and love for everyone. She was the

Mom everyone wanted to grow up with and the Mom everyone wants to be.

Dorie is survived by her brother, Wayne (Marcia) Bartz, Waterford, WI; her sister,

Maureen, Milwaukee; sons Rich (Cindy), Eau Claire; Rob (Jameson Blackmon)

Milwaukee; and Tom (Karla), Franklin, WI; daughters Kim (Aaric Guerriero),

Milwaukee; and Jodi (Steve Jones), Evanston, IL. Grandchildren Nick (Amber),

Dallas; Casey (Casey), and Chris (Brook), Aaron (Elaine) Golden, Phillip (Ksenia)

Golden, all of Denver; Kevin (Lara) Fogarty, Seattle; Elizabeth (Andrew Doyle),

Plymouth, MN; Abigail (Jack Studwell), Bloomington, MN; Samuel, Chicago; and

Eleanor and Mackenzie Jones, Evanston, IL; five great grandchildren, and

numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her sons, Kevin and Patrick, and her granddaughter,

Martha Marie White Jones.
