Diane P Olson (nee Feller) went to her heavenly home in the early morning of April 27th at the Harbor Cove in Port Washington. She was a resident in the Blue Grotto Memory Care unit for almost three years. She was a loving mother to Joy (Daniel) Schultz, David (Ellen Vaillancourt) Pawlak, and Sherry (James Lehmann) Polasek. A dear grandmother to Danny (Oana) Schultz, Sarah (Linn) Chao, and Natalie (Keith) Lipka. Proud great-grandmother of Alanna, Lia, and Kendall. Further survived by her dear sisters, Dawn, Debbie and Roxanne. She is preceded in death by her siblings Raymond and Robert.
Diane grew up with her grandmother who was from Poland. Her grandmother taught her how to speak polish and made sure they went to St. Josaphat Church each Sunday. Diane was also very close to her aunt Phyllis. Even in her last days in memory care, Diane recognized her aunt and said her name every time we looked at the picture albums.
Diane worked at Everett Knitting when her children were young. Although she never completed high school, she worked at Schneider Electric making transformers from blueprints and she also drove the forklift.
She was proud of her children and loved working in her garden, playing the organ, baking (her famous Swedish tea logs) and listening to music. As of child, she learned to play her paternal grandma's 1890's player piano. She also played the viola in the high school orchestra and played the accordion for us when we were little. Oom pah-pah. She loved traveling the US in her Jayco trailer and she even went to Norway to see the winter Olympics.
Her sisters will truly miss her. Although there was an age difference of 14 to 16 years, she was present in their lives not only as a sister, but also as a friend. She was fun, gracious and kind. If she wasn't there in person, she was a phone call away. Her sisters got to know her more in their later years. They had lunch trips, celebrated holidays, fished, went to doctor appointments, baked together at Christmas and traveled to Las Vegas twice. She used her own experiences to comfort and advise them.
Our family would like to thank all the special caregivers of the Blue Grotto Memory Care in Port Washington. A special thank you to Amy for always trying to make her smile and treating her with love, respect and kindness. Also, thank you to Kathy Wenzel for her patience, love, activities, art projects and field trips. She treated our mother like her own family member.
She will be a void in all our lives.
Memorial Visitation will be at the Funeral home on Friday, May 8th from 10AM - 12 PM. Christian memorial Service starting at 12 PM. Committal service to follow at St. Adalbert Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to St Jude Children's Research Hospital. Diane always donated to help families who had children with cancer.
