In memory of our father:
Dennis Michael Raabe 73, passed away at the Milwaukee VA Hospital on April 13, 2020.
If you knew Dennis (Big "O") then you were lucky to have a moment of joy and laughter that he could almost always pass on. He referred to himself as the VA Hospital greeter before such a thing existed. He often showed up quite early for an appointment, perch himself at the East Entrance bench, and greet everyone walking by with a warm "hello" and "have a nice day". He was born with the gift of gab, could talk to any and everyone and always did. Although we are bias - we challenge anyone to make a better Crepe or corn beef and cabbage than our dad; and don't get us started on the gravy. He was a simple man, never having an abundance of wealth, but if he did have it, he shared it. He loved and was very proud of his garden, fishing and cooking. If you ever left our home hungry, then it was your own fault.
Dennis is survived by his loving wife Mai; children Marie Hade (James) and Dennis K. (Shiela) grandchildren Jordan Engler, Tonny Mallet and Grace Hade; siblings Richard G. (Maria) and the late George W. (Clarice); Nieces and nephews Nicholas Raabe (Brandi), Paul, Michelle, Michael and Ryan (deceased) Gonzalez. Further survived by life long friends, family and extended family members Lee Nevala and Leon DeRoune.
Preceded in death by his parents George E. and Marie Martha (nee Sherid), brother George W. and granddaughter Alyson Hade. Special Thanks to the Zablocki VA staff for his care and compassion throughout his life and to his death.
Dad requested to be cremated as a Navy Veteran and his ashes will be interred at Southern Wisconsin Veteran's Memorial Cemetery with a committal service to commemorate his life. A memorial service will he held at a later date.
