A celebration of life, music, faith and love. If you knew our mother, then you knew that was what mom celebrated. Mom was born on January 21, 1927. The first child of Albert and Edith Keyes. Her siblings numbered 7: William, Robert, Eileen (Rogan), Philip, Francis (OLeary), Christine (Ross) and Jeanne (Leonard). Moms first love was music. Mom was blessed with a beautiful voice. Pursuing her love of music in college was interrupted by meeting the love of her life, Walt, who was another lover of music. After a whirlwind courtship, they were married on June 21, 1947. A family of six children soon followed: Philip, John, David, Paul, Ann and Elizabeth. As busy as mom was, she also found time to be the choir director at St. Sylvesters. Mom played and sang at daily mass and many a wedding and funeral at St. Syls. Mom even found time to finish her college degree in teaching at Alverno College and earned a masters in English at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. Mom taught junior high at Sylvesters for more than 20 years, plus several more years at St. Veronicas. Some of us children were even blessed to have her as a teacher (even though we probably didnt think so at the time). In 1981, mom and dad moved to Prescott, AZ where they spent 17 great years. They travelled the west always finding some new camping adventure and just genuinely enjoyed the Arizona sunshine, although mom still taught for a number of years at St. Lukes in Prescott, AZ. With dads eyesight starting to fail, they decided to move back to Wisconsin in 1997. It was important to be near their children and grandchildren. Dad eventually developed dementia and passed on in 2001. After dads death mom started travelling, making several trips to Europe (Spain and Italy were her favorite countries) with her friend and her former teacher associate Kay Gapakowksi. During this time moms essential tremor worsened to the point where she decided to have a surgery called deep brain stimulus in 2006. This surgery proved to great success, so mom was able to start travelling again including several trips to New York (including seeing the Metropolitan Opera). Mom was blessed with 10 grandchildren: Aaron, Ethan, Elissa, Ruth, Samuel, Katherine, Elizabeth, Alexander, Christopher and Sarah Ann. Moms great-grandchildren number 3: Andrew, Audrey and Sean. Last but certainly not least was moms faith; it was the cornerstone of her life. Moms faith sustained her both in the good times and the sad times; including the loss of our sister Ann, the passing of our dad and her serious health issues. Moms faith remained constant to the very last day. Moms funeral is definitely a celebration of her life. We are blessed to have had her as our mother!
