Born to eternal life on Friday, July 12, 2013, eight days prior to his 95th birthday. Preceded in death by his wife, June (nee Gregg). Survived by his sons, Charles Jr. and Terry (Genevie) and daughters, Gail (friend Ed Kroll) Mayer and Robin. Adored grandfather of Carol Kocourek and Janel Mayer. Also survived by his sister Mary Kunak. Preceded in death by his brothers, Joe (Esther) and John (Evelyn), his sister, Rose (Norbert) and his brother-in-law Joseph Kunak. His is survived by many other relatives and friends.
Charlie was a retiree of Louis-Allis. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II and was a proud member of the 101st Airborne. He fought at Normandy, the Battle of the Bulge and Bastogone and earned many medals and honors including being awarded the Purple Heart and four Bronze Stars. Charlie was a simple, decent and good man. He was always there to help anyone in need. He loved to laugh and have a good time. He also loved having breakfast with his buddies at Hardee's, meeting his friends at McDonald's, going to "Vic Tanny" and going out to eat with his family on Friday nights. He especially loved to hunt with his brother, Joe, play golf with his nephews, Wayne and Monty, going to the horse races and other special events with Janel and singing and dancing at birthdays, weddings and family gatherings. A heartfelt thank you to all those who provided care to him these past few years. If you were a friend of Charlie's, he loved you dearly. He will be missed by all who knew him.
