IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carol Ann
Wantuch
May 15, 1945 – May 19, 2024
Sunday, May 19, 2024 at 79 years young Carol passed away. Preceded in death by Stephen Berkowski (father), Eleanore Berkowski (mother), Helen Berkowski (adopted mother), and Eric Wantuch (son). Survived by Carole Graney (sister), Victoria & Cory Mathiowetz (daughter & son-in-law), and Melissa Wantuch (daughter-in-law). Beloved grandmother to Summer and Brayden Wantuch. Cherished "Gram Gram" to Chayce and Kennedy Mathiowetz.
Carol was a dedicated nurse and Health Officer. Her career began in 1967, as a staff nurse at St Luke's Hospital after graduating from Alverno College with a Bachelor in Nursing. In 1968 she became a public health nurse at the City of Milwaukee Health Department and later promoted to management of the Lake Health Center. She went back to school in 1987 to obtain a Masters of Science in Health Services Administration from Cardinal Stritch. In 1988, she was appointed as the Public Health Nurse Supervisor for the City of Cudahy. Within 5 years, she was promoted as the Health Officer and held this position until her retirement in 2011.
Carol was also involved in multiple endeavors throughout her vast career from district wide school surveillance programs, Chair of the Milwaukee/Waukesha County Consortium for Emergency Public Health, coordinated multi-jurisdictional WIC services within Cudahy and Greenfield to name a few. Carol also held the title of Emergency Manager for the City of Cudahy and recognized for her take-charge mentality during the Patrick Cudahy Fire of 2010 which later earned her the LIfetime Distinguished Service to Public Health Award in 2010.
Carol loved her job and the staff that worked with her for years. She did not slow down even in retirement, switching her energies to baking endless desserts and treats for her former staff, fire and police department staff, library friends, and countless others. Carol enjoyed reading in her down time and was known to have more than one book going at a time, so it is no surprise that she became involved with various events at the Cudahy Library working closely with her beloved friend Rebecca on the vendor fairs held there and other events.
Carol also was known to have a crochet hook in her hand at all times. She loved to make blankets, hats, scarfs, shawls, you name it. She entered the State Fair for many years in her retirement winning numerous blue ribbons and best of show for her creations.
To say she will be missed would be an understatement but she will never be forgotten...
