Carol Hanney

(nee George), born to eternal life on Friday, March 13, 2026, at the age of 59.

Carol is survived by her beloved mother, Phyllis George (nee Puchalla); her loving siblings, Michael (Dawn) George, Judy (Steve) Pfister, and Tony George. She was the daughter-in-law of Richard and Roxanne Hanney, stepmother to Michelle and Danielle, and sister-in-law to Bret Hanney. She was a cherished aunt to Melissa (Matthew) LaBarre, Ashley (Nick) Timber, Ryan (Gabby) Pfister, Crystal Knuth, Kayla Knuth, Austin George (Jamie Copeland), Haley George, and Hannah George, and a proud great-aunt to Ava LaBarre, Beau and Teagan Pfister, and Paisley Copeland. Carol will also be fondly remembered by her dear friends Kathy Bruss, John Eisenhauer, Carol Duesold, Kay Seavenson, and Bonnie Randow, along with extended family, former students, and countless others whose lives she touched. Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Ken Hanney; her father, George George; her sister, Mary Ellen Knuth; and her fiancé, Rob Schneider.

Carol was known for her tenacity for life, her wonderful sense of humor, and her deep devotion to her family, friends, and profession. An accomplished educator, she served as a Milwaukee Public School teacher for 35 years (2nd to 8th grade) with tireless dedication to her students and their families, impacting countless lives throughout her career. Carol truly loved her vocation!

She grew up in St. Francis, Wisconsin, where she was deeply involved in athletics and community recreation. Carol spent 38 years as a swim and water safety instructor with the St. Francis Recreation Department. She also dedicated many years to coaching young athletes, serving as an assistant track coach for 12 years and as a freshman volleyball coach for 3 years at St. Francis High School. During her time in high school, she also played the clarinet, reflecting her lifelong love of music.

Carol earned her Master's Degree in Education from Cambridge College in Boston, Massachusetts. Among her proud accomplishments were the Herb Kohl Teacher of the Year Award and setting a long jump record at St. Francis High School that still stands today.

An active and adventurous person, Carol enjoyed traveling, hiking, swimming, kayaking, volleyball, and rollerblading. She explored many local, state, and national parks. One of her favorite trips was to Alaska in 2019 with Ken and friends, and most recently she traveled to the Mediterranean with several family members.

She was a wonderful wife, daughter, sister, aunt, stepmother, and friend to many, and a special member of the Schneider family. Carol will be dearly missed by all.

Services will be held at St. Paul Catholic Church, 1720 E. Norwich St. Milwaukee, WI 53207 on Friday, April 10, 2026. Memorial Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon. The Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 12:00 Noon. Committal Services to follow at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery.
