Obituary

Listen to Obituary

Bonnie L. Smyczek was born to eternal life on October 10, 2026, aged 74 years old. Beloved wife of Thomas Smyczek and dearest mother of Thomas (Stefanie) and Patrick (JoAnne Martin-Koob). Proud grandmother of Miles, Trey, Van, Oliver and Bennett. Sister of Denise Matyka (Margaret McMurray). Also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and many other family and friends.

Bonnie was the daughter of John and Irene Matyka and she grew up in Wauwatosa. She graduated from Marquette University with a degree in nursing and later obtained a master's degree in nursing from the Cardinal Stritch University. Her life's work was at the VA Hospital as a nurse and a nurse educator. She was proud to care for veterans and supported them in their hour of need.

She met the love of her life while visiting her sister in Stevens Point. Bonnie and Tom later married and celebrated 45 years together. Bonnie was active in her parish church and school and her sons' scout troop. She burst with pride when Tom and Patrick were named Eagle Scouts. She received the Silver Beaver Award, the highest and most prestigious honor a local scouting council can present to a volunteer.

She organized the Sojkowski family picnic in honor of her grandmother and enjoyed sharing laughs and good food every summer. She was happiest when she was with her children and grandchildren and reveled in their success.
