Ostrovskis, Benedikts
Born February 15, 1918 in Latvia. Passed to the next life on February 13, 2011 at the age of 92. Dear father to Tiia (Bill) Jennaro and Antonija (Toomas) Mitt. Dear Grandpa Benny to Erika Liis (Brian) Zelinski and Julie Christine Schier. Precious Great Grandpa to Lucas Brian Zelinski. Will be missed by special friends Ernests and Mara Zvaigzne and their Grandson Chris, members of the Schier family, many friends from The Latvian House of Milwaukee and the Fishing Club along with family and friends in Latvia. Ben was a master cabinetmaker, having completed apprenticeships and training in Latvia. Once he and his family came to the United States in 1951, he worked as a patternmaker at Deutsch and Sons in Milwaukee for almost 35 years. He also did woodworking projects for friends and family, creating furniture pieces and cabinetry with expert skill and precision. On his off hours, he was an avid fisherman and spent countless hours on his boat fishing Wisconsin's lakes. He almost liked ice-fishing more, and built his own poles and tip-ups. Upon his retirement, he took up gardening, growing hundreds of tulips and roses in his large yard, traveled the United States and continued his woodworking projects. In spite of a tough exterior, he had a soft heart. His passing was peaceful and welcomed, as his suffering is now over. During his long life left his mark on the hearts of those he loved, and color to the lives of those he met. That mischievous sparkle in his eye will be sorely missed.
Visitation will be held at the FUNERAL HOME Thursday February 17 from 9AM-11 AM. Funeral services at 11 AM. Interment to follow at St. Adalbert Cemetery. Memorials to the Latvian House are appreciated.
