IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Barry
Gilbert
May 19, 1943 – October 21, 2023
Died on October 21, 2023 at age 80. Taught science at Rufus King High School in Milwaukee for 8 years and was a staff person for the Milwaukee teacher's union for 28 years-retiring in 2005. Survived by his beloved wife LaRone (of 59 years), his loving children Michelle and Jason (Jill), his cherished grandchildren, Jay, Jordan, and Taylor. Also survived by dear relatives and friends.
He loved his work, his city (and all cities), learning, sailing, walking, summer at a cottage somewhere in Wisconsin, his cabin in the woods, flights of Canada geese in the Fall, hunting, blues, jazz, good-ol-rock-n-roll, modern and contemporary art, travel, liberal politics, good food, good drink and life itself.
He understood there are no gods, no devils, no heaven, and no hell-only our natural world and that it's up to all of us to nurture and protect it.
He understood that death is death-remember what it was like before you were born-that's what it's like after you die-nothing to fear.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Marion Gilbert, and two brothers, Michael and Robby.
A family remembrance/celebration of his life has been held. His ashes have been spread over the places he loved.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Wisconsin Dementia Resource Network, Great Lakes Conservation Coalition, or Wisconsin Public Education Network in Barry's name.
