Obituary

Barbara M. St. Marie passed away Thursday, June 22, 2023, at the age 87 years. She was born in Cudahy, WI the daughter of the late Mary (nee Hojnacki) and Adam Schimelfenyg, and loving wife of the late Delbert St. Marie for 53 years. Proud mother of Terry (Anita), CoryAnn St. Marie (W. Thomas) Carls and Michele St. Marie (Randy) Boelkow. Devoted grandma of Brett Boelkow and W. Layton Carls. Dear sister of the late Robert and Millie(née Swingle) Schimelfenyg. Dear lifelong friend of the late Patricia (nee Grochowski) Lemieux. Survived by; brother Ronald and Godson Matthew Rieck, Sister-in-laws, Jo Ann Brunelle of Crookston, MN; Phyllis Schmitz of Burnsville, MN; Marlys Vaudrin of Crookston, MN; Carol Pederson of Red Lake Falls, MN and Julie (Jerry) King of Hugo MN. Also survived by other relatives and friends.

Barbara was a graduate of Holy Family School in Cudahy and Notre Dame High School, Milwaukee, where she was Salutatorian of the class of 1952. She attended Marquette University and had a career as executive secretary to the publisher of the Milwaukee Sentinel Company. She married in 1957 and raised her 3 children while pursuing hobbies of upholstery, sewing, playing the organ, bowling, cards and volunteering many hours at Holy Family School and church, a church her grandparents Lewis and Josephine Hojnacki helped build. Barbara attended Milwaukee Vocational School, now MATC, to become a Medical Records transcriber, and was employed by the Felician Sisters at St. Francis Hospital, Milwaukee and worked there 17 years until her retirement in 1989. Her co-workers knew she could transcribe any kind of Doctor, procedure, operation no matter the accent or technicality without a mistake, she was a real specialist in her field. In her retirement she enjoyed watching & talking about the Packers, Brewers, & Bucks, solving crossword puzzles and visiting with her grandchildren and sharing the many blessings of our Lord with them.

Visitation FRIDAY, July 7, 2023 from 4:00 P.M.-6:00 P.M. at NATIVITY OF LORD CHURCH (4611 S Kirkwood Ave, Cudahy, WI 53110) with Mass Of Christian Burial celebrated at 6:00 P.M. Following the Mass at church, all are invited for dinner at Pulaski Inn, Cudahy Private interment Holy Sepulcher Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Nativity of the Lord Parish or St. Thomas More High School (2601 E. Morgan Ave., Milwaukee, WI 53207).
