Phoenix, AZ, 89 years, passed away peacefully with family surrounding her on March 22, 2010. She was born March 13. 1921 in Centerville, SD to George and Ida Severance. She grew up in Aberdeen and graduated from Central High School in 1941. She loved to share stories of her childhood and the fun she had with her five siblings. She married Darwin Fish in 1843, and shortly after moved to Chicago. Together they raised five children. She was a devoted mother, providing her children with many wonderful family traditions and memories. She was a Cub Scout den mother and taught Sunday school for several years. Ardith was emplyed as a factory worker, being admired by her employers for her strong work ethich and ability to break productivity records.
After Darwin's death in 1973, Ardith moved back to Aberdeen where she married Gordon Koepenick in 1979. She worked at 3M until her retirement in 1993. She was an active member of several organizations and held offices in the Woman's Relief Corp, Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Milwaukee Railroad Women's Club, Royal Neighbors of American and the VFW Ladies Auxilary. After her retirement, she spent many hours assisting in the care and comfort of the sick and disabled. When she was not volunteering on site at the St. Luke's hospital, the local nursing homes or the senior center, she was at home making tray favors, lap robes, bibs and other items for the patients to enjoy.
She is survived by one daughter, Georgie Kay, and two sons, James (wife, Jean) and Darwin Jr. (domestic partner, Lloyd); five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, her sisters Ione Nelson and Donna Baird (husband, Roger); a brother, Donald (wife, Maria); and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by both of her husbands, Darwin Fisk and Gordon Koepenick; and two daughters, Sandra and Jean.
Memorial visitation at the funeral home on Sunday, April 4 from 2-3 PM. Memorial Service 3 PM. Private inurnment Good Hope Cemetery.
