IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Annette Rose
Smiszek
May 8, 1944 – July 29, 2025
Annette Smiszek entered eternal life on July 29, 2025 at the age of 81 years. She was born on May 8, 1944, in Toledo, Ohio, the daughter of the late Casimir and Alice Smiszek. She is survived by her beloved husband Axel Dietrich, brother James Smiszek, nephews Mark Harwell (Becky), David Harwell (Cheryl), and Brian Harwell (Melissa). She is preceded in death by her beloved "sis" and best friend, Barb and Barb's husband Charles Harwell. She also leaves behind a wide circle of friends and neighbors who will miss her dearly.
Annette and Axel were the ultimate entertainers, he a chef, and she an accomplished artist. Meals in their home were not only flavorful and satisfying but also beautifully presented, engaging both sight and taste in dining.
Annette was an avid and accomplished golfer from an early age. She continued her love of the game by leading and participating in two leagues. She became close friends with five ladies in her golf community and affectionately called the group "the six pack." Her absence is sadly felt by her teammates.
Her love and talent as an artist became apparent early on when she studied fashion design. This led to a lifelong leisure pursuit of several art mediums; including acrylic, pencil, pen and ink, but her favorite medium was watercolor painting. Annette displayed and sold her art at Humboldt Park art events, Mount Mary Starving Artists' Show and Friends of Grant Park Art Fair. Her artwork adds beauty to many homes and is cherished by those who are fortunate to own it.
Axel and Annette enjoyed traveling together. Their travels took them to Europe five times, to the Caribbean on a cruise, as well as many trips throughout the continental United States. Annually, they made several trips to Ohio and Michigan to celebrate holidays with Annette's family.
Axel would like to send a special thank you to the staff at Comfort Keepers Home Care, Aurora Home Hospice and Aurora Zilber Family Hospice. In lieu of flowers, a donation to The American Cancer Society is appreciated.
